Our aim is to become the home of modern self-defence and martial arts in Eastleigh.
It's a family thing too. We wanted to set up a school right in the heart of our community that could offer everyone the chance to not only look after themselves, in terms of self-defence, but be an outlet for self-development and enhanced well-being. We opened the school to give something back and therefore create a cause for positive change. Not just in ourselves but the students we welcome through the Dojang door.
What is UMA?
Universal Martial Art is a unique martial art, derived from the traditional Choi Kwang Do style. It promotes optimum health by incorporating key bio-mechanic principles and combines elements from several modern disciplines including Kinesiology and along with Yoga based stretching, provides students with enhanced range of movement and flexibility. This culminates in stress free, fluid, sequential motion and bilateral movements which generate optimum force on impact while placing less pressure on joints.
Our Academy, while employing light contact and sparring drills, (with a mix of pads and shields); does not promote competition. Instead we look to enhance the fitness, well-being and self-development of our students through dedicated practice of the martial art. The system is meant for all ages (5 – 85yrs) and for those who want to learn real-life, practical self-defence skills.
And in case you wondered about the ‘fist’ logo and what it means? Well, firstly, as previously mentioned, this is a school run by a family. Both Sabumnim Griffiths and his two sons share the same initials ‘M’ and ‘G’. The red ‘M’ featuring adjacent to the silver ‘G’ of the fist. The motto, Prepared, Dynamic, Strong embodies the virtues we look to achieve in ourselves everyday. Its three qualities which can help you overcome, challenge and achieve any goal you set yourself. We welcome all our students to achieve the very best in themselves and we will help them every step of the way.
